A WOMAN has died following a fire at a ground floor flat on the Thompson Street Estate, Barry, on Wednesday, August 27.
Emergency services attended at Avocet Court at 1.55pm following reports of a blaze at the property near Coronation Street, in the Castleland area of the town.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said two engines had been deployed from Barry station and one from Penarth to tackle the fire.
A Coronation Street resident said they had become aware of the incident when the emergency services arrived and saw that a crowd of people had gathered.
The fire was confined to a single flat.
A South Wales Police spokeswoman confirmed first aid and CPR had been administered, but a woman in her early 70s had died.
She added that police were now conducting an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
