INDEPENDENT Councillor Richard Bertin has aired his concerns about the service review announced by the Vale of Glamorgan council.

Councillor Bertin said that as an Independent he will only support the review if he is involved.

"I am really concerned about the future of services for Vale residents," he said. "And before any changes are made a full risk assessment should be carried out.

"Since Labour have led the Vale of Glamorgan Council we have seen huge council tax increases but very little in return for it.

"We need better value for money and if the review has this outcome then it will be successful.

“It is important that all councillors are involved in the review not just a few to ensure a good outcome for the people of the Vale."

Councillor Bertin added that he wanted to ensure that any money saving cuts made were made in the right places, and emphasised that he did not support cuts being made to the library service.

He said: "We Independents have constantly expressed our concerns about the rise in council taxes imposed on us by the Labour-led coalition. I am sure many residents will agree that we are currently not getting value for money.

“It is time for us to have value for money, quality services and not so severe council tax increases.

“Both Labour and Llantwit First must take responsibility as they now run the council and lately I have seen complaints rise because it is clear the public are not happy with the service they are receiving.

“Education and social care must be a priority of this council but I would also like to see an improvement in the homeless service and litter collection.”
