A FILM crew in King Square attracted crowds when it focused its cameras on Facebook for a BBC Wales series to be broadcast this year.
Production company It’s My Shout descended on Barry for three days to make a 10-minute short film ‘Like Unlike’ which will feature, as one of a series of nine, on series six of Made In Wales – scheduled to be aired in November.
The story, also filmed at the beach near Barry Yacht Club and Fontygary caravan and leisure park, looks at how a youngster having hundreds of followers on social media discovers they much prefer having fewer friends in person to communicate with.
The award-winning company chose Barry as a location because of its links with Barry YMCA.
It works closely with other companies, community associations, drama groups, primary schools and other establishments to find the best new talent in Wales and provides hands on training for young people, alongside industry professionals.
Line producer, Catrin Lewis Defis, said: “It gives young people an opportunity to gain more experience.
“Over 200 people applied and we took on 56 trainees – writers, directors, producers – and there are two trainees in every department.
“All the actors are from the Barry area because we have links with the Barry YMCA.”
The short-film is due for transmission on BBC Two Wales this autumn.
