A NEW report says health boards in South Wales have made progress in developing specialist services for people with obesity problems. The Welsh Government launched the All-Wales Obesity Pathway in 2010 and set out a four phrase approach to manage and treat obesity in Wales.
The 2014 progress report evaluates how each health board across Wales is delivering the four levels with all health boards, working with their partners, providing level one and two services.
Health Minister Mark Drakeford said: “Obesity is a major issue for Wales. It can result in serious, life-threatening harm to people’s health while at the same time costing the NHS millions of pounds a year to treat. This report shows the progress we have made, however, there is more to be done and in some areas the provision of services remains inconsistent.”
