KAYAKERS helped assist swimmers in difficulties ashore after lifeboat crew launched to attend Whitmore Bay, Barry Island, on Sunday, August 17.
Volunteer crew, of Barry Dock RNLI lifeboat station, headed out to sea at 7.20pm to rescue a swimmer whose friends tried to rescue him and got into difficulties themselves.
The Bristol Pilot Cutter, based in Barry, also responded to the urgent call for assistance.
Coxswain of the Barry Dock RNLI lifeboat, Hugh Davies said: “Always swim at a lifeguarded beach and respect the water. Swimming in the sea with tides and wind against you can be much tougher than swimming in a pool.”
If you spot anyone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.'
The RNLI is a charity that relies on donations from the public to save lives at sea.
