A BARRY man has followed through on his plans to get tattooed for charity, and is now sporting a Help For Heroes logo across his back.

Ex-serviceman Shane Campbell, 31, had raised more than £200 for the army charity by getting the distinctive silhouette logo inked onto his skin by tattooist "Stu-Bob" James of Studio 14, Holton Road.

Stu-Bob waived the charge for the tattoo to also show his support for the charity which assists former and current servicemen who have suffered injury or illness.

Shane served in the Welsh Guards from 1999 until 2006.

Prior to having the tattoo Shane said that the idea had been to try and do something different to the usual fundraising activities.

"I just thought everyone does a skydive or a bike ride or a sponsored head shave so I wanted to do something different," he said.

"The charity is something that is close to my heart. I've lost friends in conflict.

"Without the charity a lot of current serving soldiers and veterans wouldn't have got the support they require in any way, shape or form."

Shane has since said he is delighted with the tattoo and with everyone who supported him, including his partner Kelly Day.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone who contributed for their generosity.

"I've had a lot of positive feedback."
