THE Safer Vale Partnership Open day, held at Barry Fire Station, has been hailed as a huge success.

There was plenty to enjoy for all the family including live demonstrations by the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service including an aerial water tower rescue and a demonstration road traffic collision rescue.

Amongst the entertainment available was magician Robin Fox, as well as dancing troupe Desert Divas and an owl display.

Children had the opportunity to visit South Wales Police’s recreated crime scene and take a look at the clues, to have their fingerprints taken and to meet Tarian the school liaison puppet.

Various partner agencies such as Atal Yr Fro Neighbourhood Watch, Flying Start and Trading Standards were on hand to give information to the public.

Inspector Steve Jennings said: “Feedback from visitors has been incredibly positive, and we feel it was a tremendous opportunity for us to engage with the public in a fun environment and an opportunity to showcase all the hard work that goes into keeping our communities in the Vale safe.

"Thanks to everyone who gave up their time to make the Family Fun Day such a roaring success.”

Assembly Member Jane Hutt said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the Safer Vale Family Fun Day at the Barry Fire Station to celebrate the work of the council’s White Ribbon campaign and Atal Yr Fro’s 'Walk in Women's Shoes' event.

"Thank you to South Wales Police as well for their support on this great day.”
