THE Annual Concert of the Barry Male Voice Choir was a joyful Midsummer occasion in almost every way. Additional variety, youth, vivacity and talent were provided by the choir of Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Baruc conducted by Delwen Williams. Local violinist Helina Rees was the uplifting guest soloist the unseasonal heat of the day created a choir precedent. For comfort, choir jackets were abandoned leaving the choir exposed to the audience in dazzling detergent white appropriately matched by the purity of their sound!!

Annual concerts provide an opportunity for the recognition of choir service. This year marked the 40th year of choir membership for two members, Les Phillips and Alan Fitchett. Sadly Alan passed away shortly after completing his 40 years of membership. Choir chairman Gareth Roberts presented Les and Alan’s son Andrew with commemorative tankards and expressed thanks for their loyal commitment to the choir. Thanks were also expressed to Musical Director Dorothy Connell and accompanist Sally Tarlton.

Ahead lies a summer break for pupils and choristers alike.

Choir rehearsals will restart on Monday September 1 at 7.30pm at Trinity Church Hall, Trinity Street Barry. New members are always welcome. The only requirement is an interest in singing. Any men interested in taking up this rewarding activity are welcome to telephone 01446 402398 for further details.
