A BARRY stonemason whose work has featured in the BBC’s award-winning TV sci-fi show Doctor Who has travelled back to Medieval times.
Robert Tinsley of Barry was invited to demonstrate and exhibit his skills at Neath Abbey, as part of the abbey hands on Medieval open day, on Saturday, July 19.
Robert is involved in restoration work at the abbey and other historical sites around Wales and for the open day carved the family crest of Richard de Granville, founder of Neath Abbey in 1130.
Robert served his apprenticeship with a local Barry Company and attended Bath College before going to Sydney, Australia, for two years where he was involved in historical building restoration.
He returned to Wales this year to take up his present post with Cadw.
He was previously a finalist in the National Stonemason competition, during his time at Bath College, and also produced stonework which was used in an episode of Doctor Who.
