THE Vale of Glamorgan’s International Gallery Art Central was delighted to be the only UK destination to host to the Unique Exchange Exhibition between The Welsh Group and The International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA).

The exhibition has travelled far and wide to show the work of these international artists from both the US and the UK, having already toured in Florida and California before coming to settle at Art Central Gallery, the Vale’s prestigious art gallery located in Barry Town Hall.

The exhibition was officially opened on Saturday, July 12, by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Howard Hamilton, who praised the work on display and was delighted to welcome the guests who had travelled all the way from the United States for the occasion.

The Welsh Group, established in 1948, is one of Wales’ most recognised group of artists, exhibiting extensively both in Wales and Internationally. It currently has 44 active members located across the country, who are amongst the best known and respected arts practitioners currently working in the visual arts in Wales.

The ISEA has a membership of over 800 artists from across the United States and Canada, and comprises of 3D and 2D artists, working artists, educators, workshop instructors, budding artists and seasoned artists, all with a love for experimental art.

Bringing these two well-established groups together for this exhibition has resulted in over one hundred and twenty diverse and exceptional artworks; comprising of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture and more.

The President of both groups, Patti Svensma for the USA and Alan Salisbury for the Welsh group, made a short speech about their respective groups and their delight in taking part in such an exciting collaborative exhibition.

Simon Dancey, the Global Director for Cultural Skills at the British Council, gave a short motivating speech about how he had travelled to numerous cultural venues and events Worldwide, saying: “I am delighted to have been invited to support an International Exchange Exhibition in my hometown.”

The Welsh Group and International Society of Experimental Artists (USA) Exchange will be at Art Central Gallery until Saturday, August 30, open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
