OLIVE Ball, celebrated 100 years this week, 98 of which have been spent in Barry.
Olive a resident at the Cartref Porthceri Care Home was given a party with lots of food, plenty of decorations and entertainment, including a live singer and dancing.
She was joined by her niece Rita, who visits her daily, and was presented with a birthday cake made especially for her by the home’s cook.
Olive was also visited by Mayor Howard Hamilton and his wife Carol. She said that her favourite birthday treat was receiving her 100th birthday card from the Queen.
Olive has lived in Barry since she was two years old, living on both Holton Road and Brook Street, and was brought up as the youngest of nine children with three brothers and five sisters.
Olive said that one of her fondest memories was of the dog that lived next door to her when she was little. Her mother used to say that the dog had taught her to walk and would sometimes sit on her father’s back.
