A PUBLIC consultation on the issue of fixed penalty notices for non-attendance in schools, has been launched by the Vale Council.

The consultation asks about the current system for issuing fixed penalty notices, and gives people the chance to suggest ways of improving it.

Local authorities across Wales are expected to consult on and update their attendance policies, and have any administrative systems in place, by the start of September 2014.

The Education (Penalty Notice) (Wales) Regulations 2013 and the use of Fixed Penalty Notices for non-attendance came into force from September 2, 2013.

The consultation can be accessed via www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/attendance-consultation

Residents can submit their views by email or in writing.

The consultation deadline is on Thursday, July 17.
