VALE MP Alun Cairns has called on retailers and customers to trade off the success of last year’s Small Business Saturday to support independent traders.

He has welcomed this week’s Independent’s Day on July, 4 – a nationwide initiative supported by all political parties to encourage people to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities.

Mr Cairns said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people in Barry and across the rural Vale to use out independent traders from the local butchers, bakers, cafes and retailers. It is a chance to celebrate the amazing contribution these traders make to our local community.

“I hope that all small shops and business areas become a part of this plan. There are nearly five million small businesses in the UK and this is a great way to celebrate their success.”
