SEVEN organisations in the Vale have secured funding totalling £5,640 from the Community Chest scheme which aims to help improve sporting activities across the area.

The scheme covers areas such as coaching and equipment purchase and, with 'Murray Mania' at its peak, Barry Athletic Tennis Club is using a share of the money to encourage more adults to participate in their 'Cardio Tennis' programme.

Caerau Vale Trampoline Club, Barry Town Saints FC and the Red Dragon Junior Netball Club have been awarded funding to send coaches on training courses to cater for the increased demand they have from interested children.

The Community Chest panel is keen to support disability sport opportunities, and have awarded the Intersensory Club funding to purchase additional trikes for a cycling project at Jenner Park Stadium.

The Community Chest funding stream is provided by Sport Wales and managed locally by the Vale Council sports and play development team. Anyone wishing to discuss a potential application should contact Karen Davies on 01446-704793.

The next panel meeting takes place on July 31, and the deadline for applications is July 17.
