VALE MP Alun Cairns has called in at Barry's Gwenog Court to support a Vale 50+ Strategy Forum Elder Abuse Awareness event.

This year’s event follows a successful exhibition held in Barry Library, and the Vale MP and visitors were able to find out useful information from organisations such as Prostate Cancer UK, Age Connects Advocacy Team, IT Support, Vale Council Community Safety and Telecare in the Vale.

Mr Cairns said: “Elder abuse has been in the news of late and it is important that we draw attention to the matter. There is help available to those who may be affected but we must also work with the various agencies to ensure it doesn’t happen in the first place. The Vale Council’s relationship with the police is first class.

“Once again I was warmly welcomed by the Vale 50+ Strategy Forum, and it was great to meet some familiar faces from the Forum team as well as to meet some new ones.

“I was delighted to be invited to the event, and I’d encourage everyone to consider joining the Vale 50+ Strategy Forum (if they’re eligible!) or simply volunteer to help them with the services and support that they can provide for the older generation right across the Vale."
