COLCOT Primary School hosted the first Cardiff and Vale Maths Challenge Finals on Monday June 9.
Four teams consisting of pupils from four Barry primary schools - Colcot, Gladstone, Barry Island and Romilly Primary had met previously in the year for the first rounds of competitions and the top two teams faced two teams from Cardiff schools - Coryton, Willowbrook, Baden Powell and Glan Yr Afon Primaries. The questions set by Mr Mark Ellis, deputy head teacher of Colcot Primary School were extremely challenging and the children all did a fabulous job working together to find the solutions. The afternoon was a perfect opportunity for the pupils to work together and to compete against each other in an enjoyable way. The countdown round proved to be a lot of fun and the children managed to complete the problems very quickly, even before the countdown clock had finished. The afternoon was also a great opportunity for staff from the eight schools to work together and share ideas. The members of the winning team each received a trophy and all contestants had a certificate as recognition for their hard work.
