VALE Council cabinet members have noted a scrutiny report on the regeneration-funded beach huts at Barry Island and called for a further report.

Councillors noted the rental policy recommended by it economy and environment scrutiny committee, and cited that suggestions on their use had now been made by groups and residents.

Barry Island primary school recently spearheaded a drive to permanently secure one of the huts to enable it to become a “beach school”.

12 larger huts on the eastern promenade will be constructed with 11 available for hire to the public.

One hut will provide communal running water and all of the huts will have electrical sockets to provide users with access to power.

12 smaller huts, further along the promenade, are designed to be used as changing facilities and are regarded as not requiring power or running water.

Vale council, cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett, said: “We have been encouraged greatly by both the level of interest in the huts and the range of suggestions that we have received, including that of Barry Island Primary School. The feedback has been phenomenal and this bodes well for the future of Barry Island. We are currently considering all of the suggestions that have been made. ”
