A BARRY opticians has been viewed as one of the top places for health and safety high standards.

Specsavers in Holton Road has gained the Santia Platinum Plus award.

It was the first store in Wales to receive the platinum award back in 2013 and is now, again, the first Specsavers store in Wales to receive the Platinum Plus award.

The store is one of only a handful of Specsavers stores across the UK to hold this prestigious accreditation.

The award recognises stores that have demonstrated excellence in all areas of health and safety including requirements such as staff training, ensuring that stores are compliant with industry standards, and a host of other measures.

The store has been judged as being fully compliant for five consecutive years, which has seen it climb the ranks from a bronze award in 2010, to a Platinum award last year and now the Platinum Plus award in 2014.

Store director, Jamie Pullen said: “After being awarded the Platinum accreditation last year from our independent health and safety assessor, we’re absolutely thrilled to be recognised for taking our health and safety performance on to the next level again by being given a Platinum Plus award. It’s especially pleasing to be the first Specsavers store in Wales to receive this accreditation, and one of only a handful in the UK.

"I would like to thank the entire team for their commitment to ensuring we are fully compliant, which has been underlined with the store receiving this award.”
