A POLICE crackdown on drug-related crime has resulted in arrests and the seizure of mainly class A drugs.

Three people from Barry were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs following a pre-planned drugs operation in Barry.

Arrests took place on Thursday, May 29 after a search on a property in Barry where quantities of heroin were found by officers along with cash.

Of the three people arrested, two were subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply drugs.

A 51-year-old male and a 42 year old male, both from the Barry area, have been remanded prior to sentence at Crown Court.

Superintendent Gary Osborne said: “This operation was hugely successful in targeting drug dealers and those supplying drugs in our communities. We take a hard approach to drugs related offences and this operation sends out a clear deterrent message to criminals that we will find you, prosecute you and if you continue to reoffend, we will do everything within our power to make sure you are caught again”.

“The main purpose of this operation was to respond actively and quickly to live intelligence, target alleged offenders and through targeted police activity to identify and arrest those involved in the supply of drugs.”

“Our communities do not want drugs within them and the possession of drugs is a criminal offence and one that we take seriously. We will continue to take action against those that offend when applicable and seek to seize money and property that we believe are connected to drugs related offending”.

He added: “We rely on intelligence from residents to tackle drug supply in our communities and I would urge local residents to report any suspicious activity to us”.
