AN EVENT to highlight the issue of "safe standing" at football matches is being held by Vale AM Andrew RT Davies.
Mr Davies will host the event at the Senedd on Tuesday, June 3 at 12pm to talk about "safe standing’". Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Government legislation currently outlaws standing areas at stadiums in the top two divisions of professional football.
Welsh Conservative Leader Mr Davies will urge the UK government to amend the legislation to allow for the introduction of a limited trial of safe standing areas.
He said: “Football fans are wrongly stigmatised by a piece of legislation which was drafted in a different era, to address a different set of problems.
“It is bizarre to suggest that standing at rugby matches or pop concerts is any safer than at football matches. It’s time for the Government to look at this again.”
Mr Davies is co-hosting the event alongside the Football Supporters Federation to highlight the safe standing campaign. The Cardiff City Supporters Trust will also be in attendance.
