YSGOL Bro Morgannwg pupil, Carys Lewis recently completed a week's work experience in her local MP's Westminster office.
Alun Cairns and his team have welcomed a host of students over the last few years to gain experience in the Barry constituency office. St Donats based Carys, however, went one step further and spent a week in the corridors of power in Westminster.
Alun Cairns MP said: "It was a delight to welcome Carys Lewis to Westminster. She was quite amazing with her support and research. Carys assisted with preparing papers for my meetings and debates as well as helping with general office tasks such as diary management.
"I think its really important that businesses and public sector organisations support local pupils in gaining work and life experience of their work placement modules from schools and colleges.
"There's no substitute for students to get first-hand experience whilst they're still in education it can often help spark a career interest or simply provide an opportunity to get an insight into what employment is like."
Carys Lewis, 14, added: "I really enjoyed my time in Westminster. The highlight was seeing Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons Chamber. The MP's job is so varied; from raising matters with the Prime Minister, through to helping individual constituents on housing or health matters.
"I was also able to translate some letters from Welsh to English for Alun's colleagues."
