THE CAMPAIGN to win Fairtrade status for Barry needs local businesses and community groups to get on board and make it snappy.
The campaign group has launched an appeal for the people of Barry to show their support by buying fairtrade products like tea, coffee, sugar, bananas and biscuits and then taking a photograph of themselves supporting Fairtrade.
Cllr Curtis said: "We need as many community groups and businesses to show their support for Fairtrade.
"We have succeeded in passing the other four criteria required by the Fairtrade Foundation but we now need your help to pass the last hurdle.
"Penarth, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge have all gained the status. As Wales’ largest town it is about time we showed that Barry people do care about making world trade fair.
"We now have the support of Barry’s local paper, the Barry and District News, s o come on you voluntary groups, residents groups, community centres, church groups, scouts, pensioner groups, youth groups, cadets and sports teams. Now is the time to show you care.”
Photographs need to be sent to the Chairman of Barry’s Fairtrade Steering Group Councillor Rob Curtis either at the Town Council Offices, Gladstone Road, Barry or by email to rob.curtis1@ntlworld.com.
Alternatively, photographs can be sent into the Barry and District News by email or post.
