A FOOD Revolution took over Barry Island Primary School for a day of learning about all things culinary.

Food Revolution Day is a global campaign started by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and aimed at keeping cooking skills alive and celebrating the importance of cooking good food from scratch.

Barry Island Primary joined people from all over the world with pupils enjoying different food related activities and welcoming a number of special guests.

Year Five children participated in a world record attempt to have the most number of children cooking in one day. They went Jamie’s Italian in Cardiff and under the expert guidance of Angelo the head chef, made delicious Rainbow wraps.

Children from Nursery and Year Four had a visit from Rudy the Pizza man, who showed them how to make incredible pizzas, cooked in his wood fired oven.

There was also a visit from Dan Reed from Science Made Simple, who talked to the children about chillies and how to grow them.

He allowed children to taste different chillies and invited teachers Mr Smith and Mr Broad to take part in a chilli eating challenge.

Dosbarth Bedwen had an amazing workshop with Amy from Science Burp who talked about and demonstrated the science of making bread and also ran an ice cream workshop.

Mr Deveci from Izmir Restaurant in Barry brought along a huge range of food for everyone to taste and Marians Ices provided ice cream.
