A TEAM of student entrepreneurs have set up their own company to sell ethically sourced underwear to raise awareness and funds for poverty in India.

The group of three Cardiff and Vale College Graphic Design students created Threads as part of the Pantrepreneur competition, run by sustainable underwear company Pants to Poverty.

They will be selling pants at markets in Cardiff with all proceeds raised going to support the Pi-Foundation in India which produces the cotton for the pants.

Students from 20 colleges across the UK are taking part with the winning team going to India to visit the Foundation.

Threads, comprising of 17-year-old Jac Harries from Barry, 19-year-old Dan Hunt from Sully and 19-year-old Kieran McCarthy from Dinas Powys recently launched their campaign at a glittering event at Cardiff’s Kuku Club. Featuring models and a pants sale, the team raised nearly £650 in four hours.

“We raised £635 at one event which is amazing,” Dan said. “And it’s all for a good cause as well.

"We’re all really passionate about this and we want to use our part in the competition to raise awareness of how Pants to Poverty is changing the world of fashion, as well as win a once in a lifetime trip to India.”

The Threads team will hit Cardiff's Roath Market on Saturday, May 17 and Riverside Market on Sunday, May 18. Plans are also afoot for a one-stop pop-up pants shop some in Cardiff or the Vale.

Threads have until June to try and raise as much money as possible.

If you would like to help the team call Claire Oatridge at CAVC on 01446 725090 or email COatridge@cavc.ac.uk and she will be happy to arrange a sale.
