FOR the second year running, Barry Comprehensive School was represented in the Wales final of the English Speaking Union’s Public Speaking Competition by Year 10 and 11 pupils.

Teacher Mrs Evans and the students, Thomas Klee, Mitchell Thorngate and John McAllister, were joined at the Senedd by teams from all over the country.

The standard of speakers was incredibly high but Thomas Klee particularly impressed the judges with his speech about the right to die.

Mitchell Thorngate and John McAllister worked with a team from Brynteg as chairperson and questioner respectively, a very difficult job as they have to react spontaneously to a previously unknown subject.

The team were commended on the standard of their public speaking and wished to thank Matthew Ireland who mentored the team and also the parents who attended in support.
