WELSH Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales Central, Eluned Parrott AM, has called on Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service, to do more to promote historic sites in the Vale of Glamorgan.

And in a question to the First Minister, Eluned asked why more of our historic sites weren’t being promoted on Cadw’s website and other promotional materials.

Eluned Parrott AM said: “Cadw has a responsibility not only to care for, but also to promote all of Wales’s heritage. However, Cadw’s website and other promotional materials cover only sites directly managed by Cadw itself. Given the importance of heritage to tourism in Wales, surely Cadw has a duty to promote all of Wales’s heritage sites.

“Here in the Vale of Glamorgan we have a wealth of historic sites, such as the Church of St Illtud with its wonderfully restored Galilee Chapel and the Cosmeston Medieval Village, one our most popular tourist attractions, but these and others don’t even feature on Cadw’s website.

“The Vale of Glamorgan has one of the highest number of visitors in Wales with approximately 3.2 million visitors a year supporting around 3,000 local jobs. These visitors bring in vital funding for our local historic sites, many of which are privately owned with little public funding. The Welsh Government, through Cadw, could and should do a lot more to help in promoting these sites to ensure they continue to survive and are protected and maintained for many more generations to come.”
