A COMPETITION to name the new housing development at the former Barry Magistrates Court has been launched by Newydd.

Work on the Thompson Street development is making progress, with 16 new apartments - of the total 52 new homes - available for rent from October.

With this in mind, Newydd Housing Association is asking Barry residents to name this prestigious new development in anticipation of its launch.

To be in with a chance of winning £50 for naming this new development of 52 homes and apartments, Newydd is looking for a name that encompasses the whole scheme, perhaps based on a local connection or an historic interest.

As well as receiving a £50, the winner will be invited to the official opening of the development with distinguished local guests, entertainment and refreshments.

To be eligible to win you must live in the Barry area and entries must be received by Wednesday, June 4.

Entries can be emailed to rhianydd.jenkins@newydd.co.uk or sent to Rhianydd Jenkins, Newydd, 5 Village Way, Tongwynlais CF15 7NE.

Newydd is also building 20 one and two bedroomed apartments on the site of the former Marine Hotel on Barry Island and welcomes applications from people looking to downsize to a smaller property.

Applications can be made through Homes4u, the local housing register managed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
