THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has welcomed the inclusion of parts of the Vale in the new draft Assisted Areas Map.
The Council had asked the UK government to include key areas of economic opportunity in the Map, which identifies areas where businesses can receive higher levels of government support for investment in jobs up to 2020.
After two periods of consultation the Government has now submitted its draft to the European Commission. The map includes Rhoose and St Athan.
Director for Development Services, Rob Thomas, said: “Right now the Vale has no qualifying wards.
"The new map, once signed off by Europe, will make the Vale far more attractive to businesses. If the new Map is approved then the inclusion of the St Athan and Rhoose wards will facilitate investment in the Enterprise Zone, whilst the Peterston Super Ely ward includes the major business site at junction 34 of the M4 motorway.
"We made our best case, in competition with other parts of Wales, and I’m extremely pleased that we’re in the final stages.”
A final decision on the submission will be made at the end of the month.
