A GROUP of graphic design students from Cardiff and Vale College showed off their pants at an event to launch a fundraising campaign.

The fundraising event was held as part of the Pantrepreneur competition, where young enterprising people compete to sell underwear to raise funds for fairtrade cotton farmers in India.

Held at the Kuku Club, Park Plaza in Cardiff on Wednesday, April 30 the event featured an exciting catwalk show and dances that included CAVC students as they showed off the pants they had for sale.

Pantrepreneur is a national challenge for students to test out their enterprising abilities by marketing and selling high quality underwear made by fairtrade and organic cotton farmers. The team that markets and sells the most will win a trip to India to visit their suppliers.

The competition is designed to test students’ creative, collaborative and entrepreneurial skills. It will help them to gain business experience while still studying, helping to prepare them for the world of work.

The Cardiff and Vale College team have set up their own business, Threads, to market and sell their pants.

Nineteen-year-old Dan Hunt from Sully is part of the Threads team. He said: “We hope that through selling all of the stock, we will win the competition in London and get a once in a lifetime trip to India to see how Pants to Poverty are transforming the world of fashion.

"I am so excited to be taking part in the competition and raising money for farmers and factory workers in India to ensure that they are paid a decent wage and work in better conditions. I’m passionate about this venture and hope to thread the world together with our movement.”
