A WANTED man has been apprehended at a Barry house, with two people being charged with harbouring an escaped prisoner and drug offences.

Scott Sansome, 37, of Cardiff, who has been on the run since absconding from prison on April 12, was captured during a special operation conducted by South Wales Police.

Sansome was captured and arrested on Friday, April 25 as result of pre-planned firearms operation.

At the time of Sansome’s arrest four other people, who were found with him at the address, were also arrested on suspicion of harbouring an offender and drug offences.

Inspector Chris Owen said: “The pre-planned operations was a fantastic team effort incorporating officers from Barry Police Station, CID, Firearms and the dogs section of South Wales Police."

Sansome was charged with escape from lawful custody and returned to Her Majesty’s pleasure. Two of the four other people found at the address at the time of Sansome’s arrest were charged with harbouring an escaped prisoner and possession of drugs.

Superintendent Paul James, firearms commander for the operation and Deputy BCU Commander for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan, said: “We are really grateful for the help of our communities in locating Sansome and his return to prison.

“We value the time you take to tell us about things important to you, but particularly information that helps the South Wales Police keep its communities safe.

"Our public message is simple, if you know of a wanted person call us or Crimestoppers and be confident that we will professionally and positively act on that information.

“If you are a wanted person, or subject to recall, we will find you.

"The longer you are outstanding the greater the sanction from the courts.

"If we are looking for you, it would be better for you, as well as your friends and family, if you handed yourself in."
