WHERE most teenagers would celebrate their 16th birthday with a party, Morgan-Faith Hughes has decided to mark the day in a different way.

Rather than the usual birthday bash, Morgan-Faith will be throwing herself out of a plane to raise money for charity in support of her father.

Steve Hughes, 37, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 10 years ago and has himself done a charity skydive for the MS Society.

Knowing how valuable donations to the charity are, Morgan-Faith, of Highfield Road, Barry decided she would follow suit and make her 16th birthday one to remember.

St Richard Gwyn High School pupil Morgan-Faith said: "I didn't really want a party for my 16th birthday, so I had the idea to do a skydive.

"Since dad did it, I've always wanted to do it. I'm not scared, I'm really excited."

Morgan-Faith, who lives with her father, mum Kirstine and brother Taylor, has already raised £535 of a £700 target but has her sights set on an even higher target for the charity that she has seen provide crucial support to her father and other MS sufferers.

"In my head there's a goal of £1000," she said. "That would be amazing."

Dad Steve said: "We're really proud of her decision. It's a big sacrifice.

"I'm quite lucky in that I'm still upright and walking, but there's a lot of people out there that need a lot of help and support daily."

The family, who are paying for the jump themselves, wished to thank everyone who has donated so far but particularly Tom Gent of Cass Scaffolding for his generous pledge of £250.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so at justgiving.com/morgan-faith-hughes.

The MS Society is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to beating multiple sclerosis and providing support to those affected.
