A GROUP of air cadets have soared to fundraising success – raising more than £2000 for the Royal British Legion.

Air Cadets from 372 (Barry) Squadron raised more than £2200 for the charity and President of the Royal British Legion Barry Branch, Keith Harris and Poppy Appeal co-ordinator, Roy Goodwin recently met the cadets to thank them in person for their efforts.

The cadets were a familiar sight in a Barry supermarket, selling poppies at Tesco in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day.

The Poppy Appeal is the British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign with every poppy sold supporting the British Armed Forces past and present, and their families.

Roy Goodwin said: “I thank all the cadets for their hard work and fantastic support for the Poppy Appeal; especially as the Barry Air Cadets, were the top fundraising squadron in South Wales. This money will go a long way to support current and former members of our armed forces.”

Cadets who helped the Poppy Appeal were Pippa Cowles, Ellie Poulakis, Rachel Carbis, Jake Paterson, Georgina, Ellie and Zena Poulakis, Steph Jones, Jake Paterson and Rhys Horton.

The cadets also fly, glide, shoot, engage in sports, overseas trips, leadership and adventure training in a full and action packed training programme.

Anyone with a spirit for adventure, aged13 to 18 years old, van join the squadron parade behind Adams funeral parlour, by the Memorial Hall, on Monday and Wednesday, from 7pm to 9.30pm.
