UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen again here in Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan in the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

The number of unemployed claimants in Vale of Glamorgan constituency in March 2014 was 1,929, a claimant count rate of 4.1 per cent.

The number of claimants is 339 lower than this time last year. The latest figures published for March 2013 by the office of National Statistics represents a rate of 4.1 per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64.

Commenting on the latest unemployment figures for the Vale, Alun Cairns said: “This continues to be great news for the Vale of Glamorgan, the claimant count has come down, which is fantastic news. The long term economic plan is having a positive local effect.

“This is really good news for us locally and does show that although the economic climate is still tough there is cause for gentle optimism. We need to use this momentum and do everything we can to get more people back to work.

“Every job created means another family with greater economic security and the prospect of a brighter future.”
