POLICE in Barry have launched an operation to tackle a seasonal rise in road related anti-social behaviour.

The warm weather and lighter nights have brought with them an increase in complaints about off-road motorbikes being driven around Barry Docks and also complaints related to loud music being played from parked cars within the Waterfront area.

PC Nicola Owen, Neighbourhood Beat Manager, said: “Unfortunately at this time of year we see an increase in the number of complaints about the use of off-road motorbikes, quad bikes and general road related anti-social behaviour such as speeding and gathering of vehicles, often with loud music being played from them.

"This type of behaviour causes disruption to the local community.

“We have started an operation to provide a visible deterrent and disrupt these activities. We intend issuing Section 59 warnings for anyone caught causing a nuisance.

"Once the Section 59 warning is issued, anyone caught again is liable to have their bike or vehicle confiscated.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team at Barry station intend to continue these operations throughout the summer months to not only take action against those responsible, but also to demonstrate to our local community that we are taking their concerns seriously."
