THE largest private sector employer in Wales has teamed up with Barry Communities First to help the unemployed.

So far Admiral Insurance have seen more than 50 people, including many young people from Barry’s most deprived wards, take part in half-day site visits to their offices where they have been given valuable insights into life as a member of staff and put through mock job interviews.

Lee Coman, 35, from Barry who has been out of work for several months after being made redundant from his catering job said: “The project is really helpful for someone like myself who does not know what this kind of work entails. It shows us what happens from when you apply right through to what the job itself involves.”

Admiral recruitment officer Amie Bennett said the company was eager to give something back to the community.

Following the event Councillor Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, praised the scheme and the role Communities First play in helping Barry residents find employment.

Cllr Burnett said: “Opportunities such as this build the confidence of those currently looking for work and equip people with the tools that are necessary to find the right job.

"We are hugely grateful to Admiral for their support”.
