WOMEN in Barry will be able to experience construction and engineering trades at a range of taster sessions at the former Barry Magistrates Court.
The workshops, for those over 16, at Newydd Housing Association’s development will be run by contractors Jehu Project Services Ltd from 9.45am to 2:30pm on April, 15.
Taster sessions include workshops in brick-laying, carpentry, level and groundwork along with refreshments and a tour of the former Barry Magistrates Court development.
Local residents can witness first-hand the equipment used in the new £6.3million development which will offer 52 affordable homes for rent.
Construction apprentice co-ordinator, Bernie Mark said: "The construction industry offers as many opportunities to women as well as men. It is important for anyone interested to have the chance to try out basic skills. Sian [pictured] came to us on work experience and has since gained a full time position with a sub-contractor on our site. We would encourage girls and women of any age to come to this free event and see the industry for themselves."
