DESCRIBING a cross between a murder mystery, a visit to Deep Sea World and an elongated lecture, a Barry actress paints an intriguing picture of her latest play.

Katy Owen stars in the innovative and unusual Maudie's Rooms, a play that takes place in an old customs house in Cardiff Bay.

The story begins at a bus stop where audience's are led to the house and through the rooms which are described as being "full of secrets, scents and stories, riddles and mysteries, strange characters to meet and marvellous inside-out magical environments".

Katy, who attendedSt Richard Gwyn RC High School in Barry, described the unusual characters she plays.

"I play Buddy Sprout - a talking, withered potato - and Arlo the Boy - a small, nervous male child.

"I love playing my parts, particularly the potato because I get to be exceptionally rude and insulting to everyone.

She added: "I am beginning to wonder however, if at the age of 31, it will ever be acknowledged that I am a fully formed adult lady?”

Katy who has previously performed in Sherman Cymru's christmas show Cinders and Plum and Me Will, continued: "I think families will enjoy Maudie’s Rooms because of the atmosphere created in the house.

"You get to move through all the rooms and each one is surprisingly different. It's like a cross between a murder mystery, a visit to Deep Sea World and a rather elongated lecture on herbaceous borders.”

Maudie’s Rooms will be performed from April 11 at 3pm and 7pm at a site specific location on Bute Street in Cardiff Bay. Details of which will be given on time of booking.

Tickets are £8 and family Tickets are £28. The performance is suitable for children and adults aged seven and up.
