A SELFLESS and valued member of the community has been awarded for her hard work by the Royal Voluntary Service.

Barbara Goodway, of Barry was awarded a Diamond Champion pin and certificate in recognition of her voluntary work.

Barbara has been a member of the Royal Voluntary Service for 49 years. Currently she is the leader of the Rhoose Darby and Joan Club where she organises the running of the club, finding entertainment each week and providing members with an Easter tea and Christmas lunch at the appropriate times.

Not only does Barbara successfully lead this club but she also personally provides lifts to and from the venue for those members who would otherwise not be able to attend, ensuring that social contact is maintained for those who would otherwise not have it.

Barbara also works in the tea bar at Barry hospital Barry once a week, has been a local councillor and is currently a member of the parish church council and the vice-chair on the Rhoose community hall committee.
