Derek Brockway set for for book signing at Barry Library

Derek, who attended the old Barry Boys’ Park Crescent site at Romilly School, will be signing copies of 'Great Welsh Walks' from 2.30pm until 4pm on Saturday, March 22.

He will also be at the Windsor Bookshop in Penarth between 11am and 12pm.

In 'Great Welsh Walks' Derek Brockway and co-author Martin Aaron presents 18 of their favourite walks from all over Wales. They range from the steep hills and mountains of Snowdonia to the coastal paths of Pembrokeshire and Anglesey; from busy Cardiff Bay to zigzagging along the Offa’s Dyke Path.

Each walk comes with an introduction by Derek, an OS-based map, grid references, detailed directions and pictures of significant landmarks. Suitable for all abilities, they are fun, free and help keep readers fit while taking in some of the best scenery in the world.

“Being a BBC weatherman is my dream job,” said Derek Brockway.

“Although work has taken me around the UK and abroad, Wales will always be home and, in my opinion, there’s no better place to live. We’re so lucky to have so much variety packed into one small country - Wales is made for walking, and whatever the weather there’s always something new to be discovered. Although the 18 walks in this book only scratches the surface, it gives a good taste of what our country has to offer.”

The book’s co-author Martin Aaron donned his official pair of BBC walking boots in 2009 when he began accompanying the Weatherman Walking crew as a photographer and mapper, writing up the routes for the viewers at home to enjoy.

“It’s only when you leave Wales that you realise just how special it is,” said Martin.

“There aren’t many places that can compare with our country for its sheer rugged beauty.

“We’ve literally travelled the length and breadth of the country to walk in some of the most dramatic locations Wales has to offer, and I now have a long list of places that I’d probably never have visited if left to my own devices.”
