BUDDING Alun Titchmarshes are invited to get their hands dirty and help plant 150 trees for a Barry community.
Barry Community Garden and Allotment, in Gibbonsdown, will hold a tree planting event on Saturday (March 22) following a donation from The Woodland Trust.
Planting takes place at the site, off Dyfnallt Road, adjacent to the splash park at Pencoedtre fields, from 10am to 1pm.
Light refreshments will be provided
The group said the trees, all native broadleaved species, will grow into a flourishing young hedge in just a few years.
Garden manager, Lisa Williams said: “The group applied for a tree pack, from the Woodland Trust to enhance their neighbourhood and enrich the local environment while creating new homes for wildlife.”
The Community Garden & Allotment was set up in 2010 to provide a green space in the heart of Gibbonsdown for local residents, schools and other groups to learn about growing their own fruit and vegetables, gain new skills and provide an environment where people can meet others and get out in the fresh air.
Woodland Trust director of woodland creation, John Tucker added: "By teaming up with communities like Barry Community Garden, the Woodland Trust is working to double our native woodland cover and enrich our landscape. It’s also great to get the public out planting trees, hopefully providing people with an experience they will remember forever.”
Anyone wishing to plant a tree should wear suitable warm clothing and a pair of sturdy boots or wellies.
