IN addition to traffic flow issues experienced last weekend, one Barry Island businessman believes another problem is the ongoing issue of off-season parking.

Mark Vockins, owner of Quasar, said that some congestion on the Island is caused by people driving around looking for a parking space, either unaware that the Nell's Point car park is free at this time of year or unable to park there due to only half the spaces being made available.

Mark said: "People are coming here and they can't park, what I worry is people will think, 'if it's like this in February, I won't even try in the summer'".

Vale council highway works manager Stephen Bowen said that there were still spaces available in the Harbour Road car park and that they were not aware of problems at Nell's Point.

He said: "For the future we will erect signage to allow the public and local businesses to contact the council to inform us when the car park is near capacity and additional areas require opening."
