THE campaign to make Barry a Fair Trade town is gaining momentum.

As part of the Town Council's push for Fair Trade status in Barry, supporters were recently asked to sign a petition and as a thank you were entered into a prize draw to win a Fair Trade hamper.

Mayor Claire Curtis surprised winners Tracy Hawtin and her sons Daniel and Ben with a visit to present the hamper, donated by Waitrose, and to thank them for signing the petition.

Daniel told the Mayor about the Fair Trade activities that takes place in Romilly School where he is a pupil and Ben, a pupil at Barry Comprehensive school, said he is also a keen Fair Trade supporter.

Cllr Curtis said: "I was delighted to present this hamper to Tracy on behalf of Barry Town Council and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to sign the petition.

"We are hoping to hear soon if Barry has been granted Fair Trade status but will need to continue to work with local residents and businesses to promote the benefits of Fair Trade produce.

"We would like to thank Waitrose for donating the hamper and for their continued support in our campaign."
