PUPILS at a Barry primary school worked out before they worked in as part of a week-long study into healthy lifestyles.

Colcot Primary youngsters and teachers began each day with a whole-school fitness session where children engaged in running, jumping and stretching before going into class.

Sessions were then followed by a range of exciting activities designed to enthuse the children and raise their awareness of how living healthier can be fun and enjoyable and of the benefits they bring.

Children made healthy soups, designing and making fruit smoothies, Wii Dance, swimming, designing healthy living brochures and much more.

Year 6 brought scooters to school for the day and used the local cycle path to show how to be safe as well as healthy when out and about. They also displayed their more advanced skills in the school playground.

Local fitness instructor Mark Dodds, of Mark Dodds Total Training, came in for the day and did a taster session with each class and Healthy Harry visited to reinforce the importance of a healthy lunch.

The teachers and children certainly had a very healthy and enjoyable week; the message of a healthy lifestyle was firmly at the forefront.
