STORMY weather conditions at Barry Island during the last month have led to sand levels dropping and beer barrels emerging – say traders.
The Barry Island businessmen reported more than ten wooden barrels encased in sand at the Western Arcade of Whitmore Bay and the disappearance of sand.
They also reported massive trees amongst the waves battering the coastline.
Quasar owner, Mark Vockins said: “They are all wooden barrels like a beer barrel.
"There are about ten or more – all really good condition.
"They are all quite old and I think they would be from the 1930s.
Cafe owner Marco Zeraschi added: “The sand has dropped by about a metre and it’s exposing all the rocks.
"In the last two weeks we’ve had such high tides it’s taken sand off the beach.”
