WORK is set to begin on the multi-million pound Barry Waterfront Development this summer.
The £230m mixed retail, leisure and residential scheme, The Quays, on former dockland will bring a new link road from Barry to Barry Island, a waterfront district centre featuring shops, cafés and restaurants, a purpose-built community facility, a hotel and primary school.
More than 1700 new dwellings will be created, with a mix of private and affordable housing, alongside new parks and public spaces.
The site is being developed by house building consortium Persimmon, Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey.
Barry Waterfront Consortium spokesman, Richard Keogh said: “All is on track for Asda to commence their store and us to start house building this summer. We expect new residents to move in New Year 15.
“We are hoping to conclude the Phase 2 link road agreement with the council and Welsh Government in the next month or two.”
