THE mayor of Barry, Councillor Claire Curtis, recently welcomed volunteers from the Shai Foundation to the Mayor's Parlour to hear about the work the organisation has been carrying out in Haiti.

The guests were accompanied by Barry business woman Hilary Brown.

The Shai Foundation was set up to support outreach and mission programmes both in the UK and globally. The foundation has been working in Haiti following the devastating earthquake there and before meeting the mayor the volunteers had visited St Helen's School which had prepared shoeboxes of gifts and essential items to be taken out to children in Haiti.

Cllr Curtis said: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to welcome members of the Shai Foundation to the Mayor's Parlour and to hear about their work helping the people of Haiti. I told them a little history of the town of Barry and gave them a small gift to take out to their volunteers in Haiti as a mark of our support and gratitude for the work they are doing in a country still devastated by the effects of the dreadful earthquake of 2010."
