BARRY Town Council has recommended a nationwide bakery chain be refused permission for another outlet in the town.
The town council’s planning committee has maintained its objection to Greggs operating from a new single-storey retail unit, adjacent to Briscombe Cleaning Services, Cardiff Road, having considered a similar application in November 2012.
Councillors back then refused the application saying the site fell outside of any defined retail centre.
The planning committee report, of January 7, said: “The application site falls outside of any defined retail centre and it is not considered that the supporting retail statement provides sufficient and robust evidence through the sequential test and assessment of the likely impact, to demonstrate that there are no suitable town/district or local retail centre sites to accommodate the use and that the proposed use would not act on the viability of existing retail centres.”
Vale Council planners will decide the application.
