THIS year sees see the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and the Vale of Glamorgan Council is asking local community groups and community councils to use the council’s website to publish details of the events they have planned to mark the anniversary.

The council is also looking at ways the Vale can commemorate the centenary, with arts events and a remembrance service being considered.

Leader of the council Cllr Neil Moore said: “The First World War saw an appalling loss of life, immeasurable suffering but also acts of great bravery. The legacy of the conflict lasts to this day and we want to ensure that we remember that time in our history and the fallen heroes who so gallantly gave their lives for us. The country as a whole will come together next year in tribute and remembrance with events taking place across the UK.”

Event organisers are asked to visit the council’s First World War page at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk for further details.
