A BARRY cafe served up a treat when a group of pupils turned up at their original destination and discovered a sad cafe scene.

Fourteen Oak Field primary pupils, from the school’s nurture class, had been looking forward to an end-of-term full cooked breakfast treat – many of whom had not experienced before – with teacher Sarah Di Tomaso and LSA Jeff Schembri.

But when they arrived their pre-booked cafe was closed.

But Benny’s cafe stepped in to make sure the children didn’t go hungry.

Sarah said: “All the children were very excited and boarded the school mini bus ready for the short trip to the cafe. However their excitement was very much short lived when they arrived outside the cafe to find it closed.

“ The children's faces dropped they had been really looking forward to it. We couldn't take them back to school without finding them a breakfast. We decided to take a chance and drove through Holton Road to try and find somewhere else. We pulled up outside Benny's Cafe and asked if they had room for 14 children and two adults and explained the circumstances.

“The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us all. All the children were served a full cooked breakfast with a lovely hot drink. The children thoroughly enjoyed their food with clear plates all round!

“The owners of the cafe even gave us a special discounted rate. On behalf of the children of Oak Field Primary School we would like to thank the owners and staff of Benny's Cafe for their kindness.”
