AN OFFICE block in Barry could be set for a housing association conversion.

Newydd Housing Association has announced plans to refurbish Haydock House on Holton Road.

Proposals involve the conversion of offices to provide 15 apartments and retail space on the ground floor.

The scheme will be considered for planning approval in the new year. If approved, Newydd says it will continue its work to regenerate Barry town centre with mixed use developments, providing affordable rented accommodation and new retail space.

Newydd’s chief executive Paul Roberts said: “Our plans for Haydock House represent the next phase of our work in Barry and if approved will supplement the recent start on site at the former magistrates court where we will be providing 52 affordable homes.

"We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to improve the town centre.”

Vale Council cabinet member for housing, building maintenance and community safety Cllr Bronwen Brooks said: “I am pleased that the Council is again able to work in partnership with Newydd Housing Association to provide 15 new good quality affordable homes in a great location near the shops and services in Barry town centre.”
